Miles for Moffitt presented by AutoNation

Cancer Research Revolutionaries

Cancer touches everyone, either personally, or a close family member or friend. One in two men and one in three women will hear the words "I'm sorry, but you have cancer" at some time in their life. For far too many, it doesn't end well. One can choose to do something about it directly (become a doctor, a nurse, a scientist) or indirectly, by raising money to support the research that will bring new prevention strategies or therapies. This year the bar has been raised, and this team has been challenged to raise $7500. This is ambitious, and requires a team effort. Although I was the sole captain in years past, this year I've been fortunate to draft three co-captains: my wife Barb, and two amazing friends who have their own reasons for joining the cause: Margaret Farrell and Tracey Gentile.

Moffitt Cancer Center opened its doors in 1986 as a small community hospital, 400 employees, and a singular purpose to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. Today, it has over 6,000 team members, is ranked (for the last 3 years) as one of the top 10 cancer centers in the country, and is the only cancer center based in Florida to have earned the prestigious designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center from the National Cancer Institute. The NCI designation is earned for our research at the bench, the bedside, and the community. It is because of research that such incredible progress is being made to end cancer. Research starts with funding, and Miles for Moffitt is an amazing effort that has generated over $4 million dollars for the Moffitt faculty since the event began.

On Saturday, December 8, 2018, the 13th annual Miles for Moffitt run/walk event will be held in downtown Tampa. We know what Moffitt can do and believe in their mission to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. Please join us for this important event. You can run, you can walk, be a virtual runner, or just donate to our team. Whether you can give $10 or $1,000, every penny matters. Please do what you can to help, and tell your friends!
